On to the Great White North...

Day 5 is less eventful than the prior day and pictures will be delayed as I get them off my daughter's iPhone.  After breaking camp, we headed out of Many Glaciers still talking about the day before.  Our goal was to see a mountain goat on our way out of the Glaciers National Park...no luck.  Many Glaciers is 10 miles from the Canadian border, so we headed north with passports in hand.  We rode over Chief Mountain to the port to cross over.  There was no line with one car ahead of us.   After all the preparation and reading other ADV rider stories about border crossing issues, it took less than 5 minutes, no searching, etc and we were in Canada.

We traveled 295 miles along the base of the Canadian Rockies, wow what a view.  The weather was sketchy with threatening clouds overhead every mile and a strong cross wind to keep me on my game.  We stopped for lunch in a little town named Longview.  Our waitress had such a thick accent my daughter loved it.  It was a mix of Canadian, British and French.  Great food.  We plugged in her heated jacket due to the declining temps and dark clouds ahead.  From Longview we ventured on to the scenic route to Banff.  Highway 40 takes you into and over the Rockies.  The daunting black clouds made me a little concerned as the temps dropped from mid-50's all the way down to high 30's over the pass.  The ride wouldn't be complete without the wind, heavy rain and the threat of snow when we rode the pass.  Other than the never ending mountain views, at the summit we came up on 3 mountain goats, standing in the road.  With iPhone in hand my daughter filmed them as we slowly rode past. Home for day 5 is Banff and a warm hotel room.  What a great ski town.  It was a little rainy and cold, but a scenic portrait town.  We enjoyed sushi at the Sushi House.  Great ambiance.  It is a little restaurant with a circle counter, chef in the middle and a electric train pulling the sushi in front of the diners.  Tasty and fun.  At the end of the day I purchased my daughter a higher end camera for better zoom and wide angle pictures.  My expectation is the picture quality on the blog is going to improve...if she doesn't drop it while riding :)  Stop back in on this post for pictures later....

The weather forecast for the next few days looks wet and cold.  It will be a day-by-day decision between hotel and camping.  We restocked our supplies (with tasty meal in the bag options :))
